Directing Sounds to the Right Place

I've just installed a new soundcard, so that I can run my music through my home stereo. But I still want the "normal" computer sounds from gaming, internet sites, porn, etc. to go through my onboard sound and computer speakers. What's the best way of doing this? I have yet to find a master solution to separate the two. Do I need to tell each application where to go?
as always, thanks for the invaluable help!

That's funny enough that I had to log in at work to post. :D

For what you want to do, you can use multiple soundcards and direct each application to use a particular device. Eg- the soundcard connected to the speakers in your room are Default Device, and you can point Winamp at the secondary soundcard and the HT. ;)

Geez, finding screenshots of Foobar2k is kind of tough. Unless I missed them in my very brief examination of their website. Winamp 5.08x seems to be doing the trick for now. Now if only it or Foobar2k had voice recognition and commands......:)
Then I'd have to build a PC for the car.

Sorry, guess we kind of hijacked the thread a bit, didn't we. M4H is likely on the right track though - each app will need to be told where to play its sounds, and that might be tough.

Maybe some kind of manual toggle switch? If such a thing even exists...
