Hi all,

I just build a partial new system, which includes a Abit KR7A motherboard (no raid yet) with Athlon XP1800 processor, Gainward Geforce 3 TI500 and the new 300 mhz corsair XMS2400 memory (256mb). I also installed Windows XP as my OS. Everything seemed to work good until I tried to play videos (both on file and on the internet). The computer would usually lockup with either black and white blocks/bars or static flicker. This would happen soon after Microsoft media player would load. I ran through the directx diagnostic tool and sure enough it said that nv4_dsp.dll is not digitally signed and my cpu failed both the directdraw and direct3d tests. Other times the computer would lock up just going into the directx diagnostic tool screen. I then turned both directx and direct3d off and at other times turned down my hardware acceleration to almost none, in both instances, the lockup problem went away (could play movies). I haven?t installed any games yet to see how they would run in this mode, but I feel I know the outcome (besides I paid a lot of money for something that should run in these modes.

I have tried everything from the latest Nvidia drivers to uninstalling and using the originals (when I uninstalled the video driver, the above .dll file was not noted in regluar VGA mode). Tried the video card settings on safe and enhanced mode. Reinstalled DirectX 8.1 and have changed my bios from safe mode to optimized mode which neither helped.

I am at a lost and am not sure if it is a xp thing, Nvidia, via, or a combination of these. Any input would be greatly appreciated before I go back to my Geforce 256 and AMD750.

Thanks
