DirectCD discs not readable between HP burner and Plextor?

I have a HP burner at work and a plextor at home and routinely use discs to ferry work back and forth between the two locations. I gave up using CDRWs a long time ago and now use CD-Rs formatted to DirectCD. The only reliable way I can get this to work, is when ejecting the disc from either pc I have to select the option to convert the contents to a format compatible with any CD-R, CD-RW, etc. If I just Eject leaving the discs as is, 9 times out of 10 I won't be able to read the disc in my plextor.

Now then, you might think my Plextor is bad but I don't think so as I have no problem burning all manner of discs with it.

But I was wondering if anyone else noticed a problem like this and if so what you did about it...

well, do you have directCD installed at home? cause if not, it doesn't surprise me that you can't read those discs from work.
