direct3d & refresh rate question

okie my monitor is pretty crappy so i only get 75hz at 1280x1024

for opengl games its no big deal cuz i can just disable vsync to get higher fps than the refresh rate of my monitor

but for direct3d...my question is, how to disable vsync for direct3d? Is is worth it?

Do you have an nVidia card? If so you need do dowload the coolbits resgistry entry or use one of the tweaker programs.

If you have an ATi board you can disable it in your driver control panel.
 
I got gf3 ti500 and im pretty sure a program called nvmax can disable vsync for direct3d. but is it worth it? what are advantages and disadvantages.
