The specials for their five year anniversary started last week, but I wasn't particularly interested in the titles offered, but this week one of them grabbed my attention. I was looking at the list and I saw that they're selling The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena for $5, instead of $40, amongst a few other titles. I have seen some videos and reviews of The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay a few years ago, and I remember that the general consensus was positive, but as I said I never got to play it, and to be honest I'm not sure why, I don't think I simply thought of buying it, I may have missed a good game and I ended up forgetting about it.

So now I'm contemplating on the price of this week's titles and I am interested in buying AoDA particularly... but I'm still unsure. Are there any games that could be considered "similar" to Assault on Dark Athena? I would appreciate some examples or references, if there's any of course. Anyone here played it? And how is the multi-player? That, or I may wait until next week's specials, it will be focused on RPG and MMO titles (this week is focused on Action ones). Also, it's D2D, so I'm not sure if there's any known issues with the D2D version (issues with the game's security or perhaps patches or anything else that may happen, I haven't found any known information about that).

My original post below - I didn't realize the D2D version is only Athena. It's...maybe worth it. Butcher bay was written much better.

Dark Athena is OK. If you haven't played it, it's worth it just for the re-textured Butcher Bay.

Don't overthink it. It's $5.

And I saw the other thread too late as well, my bad. There seems to be the same DRM in the D2D version than the retail one, three activations, right? I'm not sure though (nothing to do with the DRM however). I know it's "just $5", but I see other good deals on GoG.com for that same price, and some casual games on Steam I could get as well, I have lots of choices. I guess I will try it just to see what I missed with Butcher Bay.

Are there any mods for that game yet? Any SDK?

It sucks because the games I would want I already have and the other games are complete low-budget shit or extremely old.
