I don't like the quote about unsupported titles to be sure. Personally, this is why I consider all my purchases via digital distribution to be glorified rentals, and why I only buy up the games at rental type pricing (e.g. typically $10 or less Steam sales). Not looking forward to the day when Gabe Newell decides to retire and liquidate Steam over to Activision, EA, or name your FUBAR consumer unfriendly company (not saying that GameFly falls in this category, as that remains to be seen).

Direct2Drive Titles on GameFly

We're currently moving as many game titles as possible from Direct2Drive to GameFly. We will continue to work hard to bring ALL Direct2Drive titles to GameFly, if possible. Some older titles may take a bit longer or may not be migrated if their specs are no longer supported by today's technology. The number of these unsupported titles will be minimal, and will not impact the majority of our customers. We'll send you a separate e-mail if any of the titles you've purchased are not supported on GameFly.

Gamefly FAQ regarding the move - http://gameflydigital.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/315

GameFly is forcing you to download with their client now. (personal opinion) Forget that!

Will I be able to download games using my Web browser?

GameFly's aim is always to bring you the best experience possible when it comes to buying, downloading, and installing your games. Currently, we believe that the GameFly Client will give you the most consistent, high-quality experience on any PC or Mac that meets the Client's minimum requirements. However, we do listen to our customers and we're always exploring options based on customer ideas and feedback, so we welcome your suggestions.

Also, no game guides you've purchased with transfer over.

What will happen to my games that I purchased on Direct2Drive?

Once the transition occurs, your Direct2Drive purchases will be available on the GameFly website and in the GameFly Client. Some older titles may not be available immediately after the transition, and will be added later. Also, GameFly will not support game guides and other non-game files. To be safe, please download your purchases and non-game files from Direct2Drive by January 24.

Possible light in the dark. I like the idea of a subscription based PC rental system.

What is Unlimited PC Play? Can I play these games for free?

The GameFly Client has hundreds of titles labeled as "∞" for "Unlimited PC Play." This library of titles is free for GameFly members and trial members to download and play as long as your membership is active. If you're new to GameFly, you can start your free trial now to play these titles for free in the Client! When signing up for GameFly, please use the same e-mail address that you use on Direct2Drive; this will help us connect your accounts in the future.

This feature is not available to our UK customers at this time.

If it did I never used it. They provided basic HTTP links so it wasn't tied to your account in any way. Which is one of the many reasons I preferred them to the likes of Steam etc as my freedom of use was now impacted by extra DRM levels.

Its a real shame this has happened, they provided an excellent service.

Yea; I liked d2d. On reseller rating they had a rating of 9.84; gamefly has a score of 4.17 (though the number of reviews is very few and based off of games purchased and mailed (so they must have a store front)). I guess IGN needed the cash. Hum. As a comparison gamestop has a rating of 0.05 and steam has a rating of 4.38 (most of the complaints with steam is that you can't sell the game secondhand). I should note that gamefly and steam actually do not have that many reviews; direct2drive (with 9.84 rating) has 10x reviews.

I've only purchased a handful of games from D2D, but I do recall you could use a http direct link for the files. The client was there, but it was also optional. Gamefly's client is not optional according to their FAQ section.
