Direct X removal

Does anyone have experience with that utility that allows you to delete DX? I want to revert back to DX7, as I am trying to get the S3TC textures to run properly in UT.

I can get it to run fine for a few sessions, and then it starts studdering and the sound goes bad as well.

there are progs that remove directx just to to yahoo's site and search for uninstall directx and you'll find some sites.
