Direct X 9.0C

Hey Nitro,

1. I am running Windows XP SP1
2. I installed 9.0c by itself. When I built my new system over the weekend (first build ) it had SP1 on the disc.
3. I haven't intalled SP2 because I don't trust beta software

Everything I have is pretty standard. The only game I play right now is far cry (came free with my video card )

My old system died a while back because of bad capacitors on the motherboard. I actually had to build earlier than I wanted to (waiting for the SLI & 90nm Athlons).

My card nor system are overclocked because I have never done this. I was going to try overclocking this weekend. This seems very strange... the game was normal until I went to the elevator and pushed the button for it to come up. Once motion was in the game (besides my character) everything slowed down big time??

My system is fast after I unistalled the 9.0c using system restore? I will try to install it again this weekend or maybe tonight... this is just very weird as the drivers & 9.0c are supposed to be really good for 6800's

One thing I haven't tried is 9.0b with the 61.77 driver??? Maybe the driver was bad and not the direct x?

Not sure if you would be willing to re-install Windows or not, but if you are not worried about borking your install, I would give SP2 a try. It is beta, but runs fine for me.

Another question... When running FarCry, does this only happen when you have the SM30 Path Beta enabled, or does it happen all the time?

Hey Nitro,

I could install the beta... just don't like to do that? What I did was:

downloaded 9.0c & 61.77 (I was running 9.0b & 61.76)
unintalled the drivers from add remove programs & rebooted
ran driver cleaner 3.2 and rebooted (chose Nvidia from driver cleaner menu) & rebooted
(just thought of something, would the cleaner delete my Nvidia drivers for my chipset NF3-250???)
installed 9.0c & rebooted
installed 61.77 and rebooted
after the slowdown I uninstalled & driver cleaned the 61.77
installed 61.76 and found still slow
uninstalled & driver cleaned 61.76
did system restore to make it go back to 9.0b

Do you think it could have been my chipset drivers that were restored with the restore along witht he directx? I thought there was another option, besided Nvidia to clean the chipset software?

What version of FarCry? Did you have 1.2 patch installed?

Hi side swipe. I was running patch 1.1 because 1.2 had been recalled before I received my new GT. Would that make a difference?

Well, I would certainly re-install the nForce3 250 drivers to make sure they are there. Also, the fact that you are running the 1.1 patch and having problems with DX9.0c is really quite starnge. The 1.1 patch doesn't actually use any of the features unique to DX9.0c. Another thing that is strange about this is that only nVidia driver version 61.77 has DX9.0c enabled by default. Even if you have DX9.0c installed, drivers other than 61.77 wiil only use up to DX9.0b as far as I know. DX9.0c can be enabled in some other nVidia drivers, but you have to edit an inf file manually, which doesn't happen by accident.

Hi Nitromullet,

Thank you for all of your help. I think what happened is that I might have manually uninstalled (through add / remove programs) all the Nvidia drivers (including chipset) instead of only the video ones? I am going to try and reinstall the new 9.0c & 61.77 tonight making sure that I have the chipset drivers installed.

I will update my thread tomorrow if it worked (I started a new thread just to see if anyone else was having problems).

Why all the debates lately about whether or not free things are "worth it"? First it was overclocking, and now this. Free things are always worth it!

I disagree. If I install SP2 beta and it hoses my install, free wasn't good. Or if I fry my video card trying to OC it, how free is that? Another example... You ever use Linux? It's only "free" if your time is worth nothing. For me, Linux is worth it because the time I spent learning it helped me get a better job than the one I had. However, for someone not into IT, Linux might be a terrible waste of time. It is all relative, which is why people ask these questions.

but its not beta anymore... you can download 9.0c official and use official nvidia drivers with 9.0c support...
