Direct X 8.1 Direct 3D corrupt..Warcraft 3 probs...

Abit IT7 MB
Pentium 4 1.8a
512 Corsair XMS 3200 memory
Gainward 4400 vid card
Win XP Pro

Brand new system...running well...son talked me into buying Warcraft 3...installed...will not run...yes, game is "patched", did everything Blizzard game site said to do...NADA...then ran at start-run-"DXDiag"...when testing Direct 3D component...error message "failure at step 5( get device caps): HRESULT: 0x8876086a(3D not available)"

So, I assume I need to re-install Direct X 8.1... but can't get it from MS site, keep saying it's on my Win XP Pro cd..I can't find it on the CD...hope I don't have to re-install XP...

What to do...

Is your system stock or overclocked?

Sounds like somehow the graphics card has some hiccups - could be overclocked too much?

this is a DX8.1 or driver problem

i would reinstall DX8.1 then put on NVIDIAs latest drivers from their site, ill edit in a linky to DX8.1 in a sec

make sure you install the drivers 2nd, after putting on DX8.1

i believe the win2k version will actually work on XP too
