Yeah it does suck compared to a good cable tv system. Most of the country though has a moderate to crappy cable system ( i live in crappy area now) and its better than the cable here

Don't know about DirecTV, but I'd rather have Dish (Expressvu in Canada) than my current digital cable. The digital compression is crappier on cable here, and with Dish you can "modify" your receiver to get all channels and PPV movies. :D

But why would they switch just for Tivo? You can get a Tivo with cable too...

I had TW digital cable and it was OK but its picture quality is way behind DirecTV quality. And with oval dishes, DirecTV can dish out HDTV plus
Dolby Digital provided you have the right receiver. I also get a lot of music channels free ( I had to pay cable extra for it).

Well I only have a normal 19" tv no good sound or HDTV for me so none that matters really I like TW DC because the menu is way better, and the channels are much easier to find

I definitely prefer DISHnetwork.. more WB and UPN, more movie channels, less compression on all channels. No wasting bandwidth on stupid football/hockey (*ducks*).

Mostly the lower compression (better image quality) and wb/upn.

I do envy DirecTiVo though, I wish they made dishnetivo.. dual tuners and non-recompressed vbr, mmmmm.

But my 110GB standalone TiVo is serving me well.

I have Cox cable and DirecTV services in my house. In my opinion, DirecTV has a much better picture and sound quality and navigation between channels makes way more sense than 1, 2, 3, etc.. for Cox, where channels are not even categorized. And no, DirecTV does not suck :)

I have DTV, and it's WAY better than what i can get on cable up here in Canada. Quality is soooo much better too. You're right though, the menu is better on digital cable systems.... i wonder why they don't make it similar to those.

Hmm, here in Rochester NY digital cable reeks. I have DirectTv hooked up to my 4 DirectTivoes and the picture is outstanding. Never have had any major problems in the 5 years that I have had it. To each there own I guess. Oh, gotta love that hockey package though. He shoots he scores.

DirecTV blows cable picture quality away in NY. The cable system in my area uses fiber and picture still lacks compared to DirecTV. Better channel selection too.

I just got DTV and it blows cable away. So many channels and a nice clear picture. Plus joo can haq it ;)

Obviously, it's DirecTV who sucks then, right?

i have digital cable and you can "modify" it to get PPV and the movie channels. I dont since i already get all of the movie channels and hardly ever watch PPV.

I have Digital Cable, and my parents have DirecTV. After using both systems for awhile, I've found that DSS is much better. The system responds instantly (cable box has about 1 sec delay for everything), the viewing info is much nicer (they'll show you why a movie is Rated R, which is nice when you have kids), I can order anything with my remote (50% of pay per view on my cable box has to be phoned in), and the picture is clearer.

The only drawback to DSS is that during a terrible storm the signal will probably go out. Although with my cable the sound has been randomly cutting out lately.
