Over the weekend my Direct TV receiver one of the tuners stopped working. Just so happens its the one that attempted to record my TV shows so all my recordings since the problem began aren't recording. Could be LNB or the little boxes before the DVR but happens on the HD channels mainly. I usually get the MLB package and i am not under contract because I have had it for years.

What I am annoyed with is that they told me Is that when this couldn't be resolved over the phone and would need to send out a tech. They wanted to charge me $50.00 for the tech to come out. Im sorry but I pay for a service and I rent my receivers because they dont allow you to buy them any more. Like I said im not under contract so I told them you know I would prefer to cancel my direct tv service and I will have dish network come out and install all brand new equipment for FREE.

They immediately dropped the $50.00 service tech fee.

I have to wonder how many people would pay the tech fee. If your paying for a service and its not what you pay for you shouldn't have to pay them to fix it.

You can also save money if you are not already on a promotion by calling and telling them you are going to switch to dish. They will usually offer you a promotional discount for 12-24 months. Works with some cable companies too.

I do that as well but the most I usually get is $10.00 off for 6 months and 3 months free of a movie channel. Never got 12 months of something from Direct TV. I was holding out for True-Blood on HBO or Dexter on Showtime before calling but then this issue happened.

By the way, you own the receivers after two years. They stop charging me the monthly a couple months ago. I never agreed to buy them either.
