What's the difference between them?

I see on a web site that there is Hughes and RCA. They also used to have a phillips but I don't see it listed anymore.

Can someone enlighten me on the differences?

I plan to get TiVo if that helps the decision.

Our company has been installing DTV for 5 years and at this point the only brand we use is Hughes, we've had 2 of them go bad over the years whereas we've had a lot of the other brands come bad out of the box and going bad on us.

My recommendation is go with Hughes:D

I recommend the Hughes DirecTIVO DVR2.

Last year Circuit City had them for $99 - $50 MIR = $50 for existing DirecTV customer.

Damn that was HOT!

I got two RCA Boxes when signed up with Pegasus (DirectTV dealer) and one box doesn't hold it's settings well.

Sounds like the Hughes boxes are better.

We had an RCA for 3 years. Zero problems. Just bought a Hughes DVR a few months ago and I'm not as impressed with the guide. It takes forever to scroll through the thing whereas the RCA was instant. Same thing with changing channels; noticeably slower on the Hughes box.

I had the RCA DVR when I had direct tv. It was fine. I just had to many trees in my area and I would lose my picture in a slight drizzle. So I stick with cable now.

FWIW our first DirecTV receiver (no TIVO) was an RCA which we had absolutely no problems with.

We replaced the RCA with a Hughes DirecTIVO and it's even better.

BTW: All Tivo guides scroll slower than the regular receivers, The regular Hughes receivers actually scroll faster than any other regular receiver I can remember installing:D
