The rents want to upgrade thier Direct TV down our shorehouse to HDTV...I just need to buy their HD receiver im guessing?

They have a plasma EDTV down there.

In order to receive the HD signal, they do need an HDTV im guessing and it will just be downconverted?

Thanks and sorry for the bonehead question.

It'll be down converted byt the TV to whatever resolution it supports. It won't look like true HDTV, but definitely a step beyond SD.

Actually, it is a 3 lnb dish. It is so you can pick up each of DTV's satellites. The 3rd one hits their HDTV satellite. They actually have a 5 LNB dish now so that you can receive HD locals and other MPEG4 programming..

I don't think you can get the 3 LNB dish anymore. You will end up getting a 5 LNB dish and an H20 HDTV receiver. You can set it for whichever type of set you have it hooked up to as part of the initial setup.

Edit: One other thing you may want to do depending on how long you have been with D* is call them and see if you can get the upgrade done for very little cost. If you have been with them 3+ years they may tell you they want $99.00 to move up to the HD receiver. That's when you tell them ok but let me call <insert name of local cable company here> to see how much HDTV will cost through them. They may then switch you over to retention and drop the $99.00 down to $14.95.
