Direct Draw Problem after upgrade to MSI TURBO

Hi I recently upgraded my motherboard and cpu to a MSI K7T TURBO AND 900 T/B ( not o/c).Problem is whenever I try to run a game that uses Direct Draw to launch it sends my monitor to sleep. The problem also manifests itself when using directx diag third test on direct draw and when testing direct3d acceleration and agp texture accelaration in display, although no faults are reported in directx. If directx is at fault is there anyway of uninstalling directx completly to reinstall and try again or is it a complete reinstall of O/S.
Initially I was using a voodoo4 card and no d3d would work I changed to a Radeon 32mb DDR and now have limited d3d.Unreal Tournament runs ok in d3d but others such as Project IGI completly fail to launch.

My nephew today bought a MSI PRO2A board and 750 duron and is experiencing the exact same fault.

Is there any tech wizard who can throw any light on this fault.Rest of the system is rock solid.

My SYSTEM
MSI K7T TURBO (VIA 4.29)
900 T/B
IBM 30GB ATA 100 H/D
128 PCI SOUNDBLASTER
32MB DDR RADEON(NOT O/C)
CRUCIAL 256MB CAS2

I'm running a similar setup (Pro2A, 650 Tbird, 75GB IBM 75GXP), and I had problems with DirectDraw too... the machine would randomly reboot while watching video files (MPG, AVI, ASF, RM, you name it). None of the Via drivers worked for me, so I ended up getting a Promise ATA100 card and sticking the HD on that. Hopefully that'll solve the problem...

Looks like it's a Via chipset problem, and it might have something to do with the IBM drive as well.
