Direct connect to modem: 300 down, 20 up. Via router: 150 down, 5 up. Router problem?

Both connections are wired. My router is a little bit older, a Linksys EA4500. Using wired CAT6 for everything.

I am not familiar with the home stuff anymore. Does the Linksys perform any kind of filtering? Even if it doesnt. I would say it is clear the router is not upto the take of pushing more than 150Mbps. One other option. Verify if the WAN port needs to be set. It shouldnt, but I have seen issues with auto configure between routers\switches and the ISP.

I wondered if the router was maybe 100Mb Ethernet only, but it says the ports are Gigabit. I did a factory reset on it and I'm getting identical speeds now. Weird. On the bright side, I just saved a couple hundred bucks. :D

Then you'd have been testing at 100mbps. If it were auto-negotiating a 100Mb ethernet connection, you wouldn't have been seeing 150mbps on speedtests. That HAS to be using a gigabit connection.
