When I was back home for Xmas (Scotland) I decided to scan a few old photographs and put them onto a CD for transfer to my PC here in the USA.

Well as I was going to be editing these pics (cleaning them up) I decided to format a CD-R using Roxio "Direct-CD" and leave the disk "open" rather than closing it.

I assumed that as I have EZCD5 Platinum on the old PC back in Scotland and the one here in the USA the two computers would read the "unclosed" disk without any trouble.

However - nothing goes to plan does it?

I put the CD-R into my system here and guess what - nope cannot access the disk.

Does anybody have any idea how I can get the files (scans) off the disk without sending it back to the UK and getting my mum to "close" it first - assuming that is will even alllow me to so this?

Load up Easy CD Creator itself instead of Direct CD. Click the "Disc" drop-down menu, select "Disc Information." If you're lucky, the Recover and/or Finalize Session options will be available. If both are available, I'd try the Recover option first. Obviously if only one of the options is available, try that option. If neither option is available... it may be airmail time! :Q

Yep - I'll give that a go.

Not sure why a "Direct-CD" formatted disk would not work in another PC with a CD-R and EZCD though :(

Well I am a happy chappy yet again :)

I updated EZCD 5 with the patch from October 2002 - popped my Direct CD formatted disk into the CDRW drive (after a re-boot) and hey it recognised it as a formatted disk :D
