Recently installed XP SP2. Now when I boot my PC I get the following message, : Direct Access Component has encountered a problem and needs to close. Whe I click on the information button I get the message "EventType BEX P1:tfswctrl.exe . There is several more lines of text.

Anybody have any ideas? My antivirus is CA EZ AV and is updated daily. I also run Ad-Aware and SpyBot Search and Destroy. I also have Zona Alarm Pro turned on and Windows firewall turned OFF.

My system is a little old, but has been updated several times. It is an AMD athelon 1.4 gHz. with 512megs ram and a 128mg ATI video card.

In addition the "box" is making a strange groaning noise. At times it groans and other times sounds like a chainsaw from a distance. I assume this is NOT GOOD!

Thank you for your help.

Puzzled, perplexed, and confused.

i've been experiencing a similar problem - I have installed a DVD ROM game and whenever I try to run it, the same error message pops up, and the game subsequently tells me to insert the correct DVD ROM into the drive.

I've tried everything - even completely reformatting the computer and starting from scratch. anyone have an idea??

figured it out - IBM's DLA has problems involving clashing with service pack 2 - in fact, IBM techicians have been told to advise customers against installing SP2.

in any case, DLA isn't an essential process.. I uninstalled it and now everything runs fine. only thing is that now I won't be able to drag and drop to compile data cds - I'll have to use my CD burning software to make these up.
