I have a Radeon 8500le which is not working most of the time. I have overclocked the FSB to 138 so that I don't overclock the rest of the system too much. Occassionally I've overclocked my ECS Pro board (JUST CAUSE I'M A COMPULSIVE TINKERER ) to 143MHz FSB. Only a couple of times for an hour or so.

Now, I have the problem of not being to load Unreal Tournament, Max Payne D3D Hardware, but Serious Sam will load, after some delay. Is it possible to burnout the Direct 3D engine and leave the Software rendering, Open GL operations intact? I have reinstalled software, Direct X and Cat drivers several times. Reseated the card, etc.

I'm hoping this has a software fix, otherwise it probably means a new vid card. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

I don't know much about the physics of how the hardware works, but I can tell you that it's anything from extemely unlikely to impossible that you "burn out" your direct 3d capability... and I've overclocked my Radeon8500LE to too high levels and after pulling back down never experienced any problems.
I've never heard of this problem though... I'd say first try resetting all your BIOS settings to default and see if it fixes it. Then maybe reformat and reinstall Windows XP, along with the latest Cat drivers.

You're right. it still works. I've reinstalled the direct x drivers, cleaned up the registry, etc., reset the bios memory settings and it works now. Also, it has been about 18 months since I've done a clean install of the OS and it's pretty unstable. Time to do a clean install!

Thanks
