dir 655 bridge mode or not?

I currently have 1 dir 655 wireless router at one end of my house. I would like to strengthen my signal on the far side of the house. Is there any benefit to adding another 655 in bridge mode as opposed to just connecting to the lan port? Can I replace a switch with a new 655? If so, can I use the other lan ports the same way I would use a switch? Should I get a different wireless router?

I had this, and after checking with tech support and getting no satisfaction, I'm trying other routers. FWIW.
