Diplay port vs. HDMI - what is the difference?

Hello,

I just started seeing cards with HDMI connections and now I'm starting to see some with display ports on them. Can anyone tell me why a person would want one over the other? Does a diplay port include sound? Does one support longer connections, more bandwidth, etc?

Thanks

Display port is the new standard to replace DVI in the computer monitor sector.

Much like how HDMI basically carries a DVI signal with sound, Displayport is compatible with DVI and HDMI with an adaptor.

Displayport has added bandwidth over DVI and HDMI, supports sound, and supports 2-way communication between the device and PC (for example, for touch screens, etc.).

Displayport is the computer interface of the future; its going to replace both DVI and VGA. However, HDMI will still continue to be the de-facto standard in the home theatre arena.
