Dining Table Alternatives?

We live in a two bedroom co-op that does not have a formal dining room. However, if we have family over, we'd like to set up a dining table in the 2nd bedroom. I'm looking for recommendations on dining tables that can be stored away and only brought out when necessary.

I'm figuring something with extra leafs and folding legs would be good.

I would like to still have the impression of a quality dining table though, instead of just getting a cheap plastic folding table.

Thanks.

I'm interested in what you find as I'm in a similar situation. Currently we just use the cheap plastic folding table with a nice tablecloth ;)

Also, what do you intend to do for chairs?

They sell nice quality folding chairs that look like dining table chairs in various places. (Saw a few at Bed, Bath & Beyond over the weekend.) About $40-$50 each.

That's what I figured. I think just going to stick with my $20 costco folding chairs & plastic table until we get a bigger place. :p

Ah, living in NYC. :)

Ikea has some nice options for fold-away tables that aren't too expensive.

Actually, a drop leaf table would be great. You might be able to find one antiqueing as I havn't seen a new one in a long time.

They are typcially 2x4' and normally stay on a wall as a table. They have 2 leaves though that are probably 30" in size. So, unfolded it turns into a 7'x2' table.

The cheap and easy alternative is to get folding tables (the 3'x3' square ones that are $30 each) and a nice table cloth. Add some wood folding chair that are nicer (these exist) and you are set!

Yeah those chairs are about the price I've seen them. That table is too small for me though. I saw a table one time that had two drop-in leafs, that, when at it's largest size, could sit 6 people (and perhaps squeeze in another two). The only thing was that it was over $300. I figure I'd see if someone knows of something cheaper.

Hmm, come to think of it, two of the tables in vi_edit's link and a tablecloth does seem like a good alternative.

Any links on some good wood folding chairs? We were even considering getting chair covers for cheaper chairs.

how about building something that folds up onto the wall (like a folding bed)... on the bottom side you can attach a dart board or something when not in use :D
