I'm wondering what conservatives think about the idea?

I'm generally an Obama supporter, and I think that the essay is pretty wrong, but there are some glimmers of possibility in it IMO. It is possible that Obama on some level even unknown to himself isn't as enthusiastic about America as others, since he is aware of America's sins

I'm starting to think I should write a book for right wing loonies. Maybe make a whole series.
Ronald Reagan and the Sorcerer's Stone. Ronald Reagan and the chamber of secrets. Ronald Reagan and the prisoner of Washington. Ronald Reagan and Lord Voldobama.

Lots of money to be made here, and pandering to anti -obama folks is a pretty big market.

Hahahahahaha. If you REALLY want to destroy the west, just support Republicans. They want to DESTROY the middle class. When the middle class goes, America will too.

actually, I get the impression that people just want books that demonize the other guy and completely validates them. It feels good.

He doth project too much.

No, he is too enthusiastic about America in my opinion. He lacks sufficient modesty and is very blind about the limits of American power and his responsibility to exercise it with great humility. That is not to say he isn't almost infinitely better about this than Republicans who rave about the patriotism and honor of American soldiers as they send them off to die. The military ought to have a veto power on war.

We hold these truths to be self evident, that Americans are superior people, that they were granted by God, infinite power to abuse in His name for oil.

"I am a human being the same as any other, a candidate for any tribe and a member of none but the human race. Whatever tribe you belong to, I am superior to it. I pledge allegiance to no symbol of the whole of the human race and to the world we live in, one world of the deepest love, indivisible and with liberty, justice, and equality of spirit for all.

Of course I only feel this way because I was raised in a country full of liberals who gifted me with the spirit of American generosity. If I had grown up in oh say Somalia, because I can't think of anything better, I might just say, 'Fuck You".

Dinesh D'Souza is a good man, he courageously speaks the truth about obama and exposed the story of his brother George Obama. When obama has destroyed America with the help of democrats and republicans he has a right to be angry with him

Obama is enraged? He's like Dukakis on prozac. If he got less spirited we'd have to use a heart monitor.

It's an interesting concept, and Obama from his own words certainly bought into his father's ideas in his college years. If he still believes that crap, he's hid it well his first term.

The main crux of all these racist hit pieces from the right is that there is no credible evidence in Obama's first term to support any of these claims. At the end of the day you all look absolutely ridiculous to sane people in this country.

You spend your time making fantasy claims while ignoring the real substantive crimes that are happening right in front of you as corporate America rapes and pillages this country for all its worth (e.g. banking collapse, Citizens United, etc.).

You've bought into the dichotomy of Democrats and Republicans, when really it's a battle between the savers and the free shit for life crowd. Both parties are packed with free shit for life crowd. They are some savers in both parties but they are fringe elements shuttled to the sideline. I've noticed that no matter which party is in control...free shit for life crowd takes over and our national debt never stops growing. Democrats have more free shitters than repubs but repubs are not far behind. Look at the facts...there are 16 Trillion of them and growing. Both parties OWN that!

If memory serves, President Obama met his father only once. Dinesh D'Souza is just profiteering on people's racial and national-origin prejudices IMO.

Ha, Obama is about as level headed as you can get.

Considering Obama has been governing as a right of center Democrat, this kind of stuff, much like the idiotic socialist/communist accusations, pretty hilarious.

D'Souza should stick to being a Christian appologist.

Dreams from my father

Read it. Marvel that this man could get elected dog catcher in Berkley, much less President of the United States of America. Obama was unquestionably greatly influenced by his father's philosophy.

Nonetheless, I remain unconvinced that Obama is still that wild-eyed, foaming radical he self-described. Yet he unquestionably has many of the same beliefs, as witnessed by Obamacare and his empowering of bureaucrats to overturn the law. Where I think he has departed from his early years is in wishing the destruction of America and the other Western democracies; he's taken many actions that, say, Carter would not have taken, which would clearly have been anathema to his father, such as helping to topple socialist dictators and continuing (even escalating) the war in Afghanistan. Guessing at his core beliefs, I'd say his are arguably closer to mine than to his father's. I'd further guess that with age, maturity and his own children, Obama found it less easy to blame his father's abandonment and general dickheadeness (dickheadity? dickheadism?) on Western democracy and capitalism.

I'm so terribly tired of those on the right claiming those on the left are intentionally trying to destroy America. Similarly I am tired of those on the left claiming those on the right are intentionally trying to destroy America. Anyone, no matter their education or credentials, that spouts this kind of crap is a moron without question.

Just taking on presidential candidates you may not agree with Obama/Romney. You might even think the policies they are pushing would be harmful in some way or another. But Obama/Romney push their respective policies because they believe they will do good for the country not because they want to destroy the country. If there was an obvious and easy answer that could be proven scientifically and gain 100% agreement on what we should do then we'd likely do it but when it comes to the economics of the largest country out there in context to what is happening elsewhere in the world there isn't an obvious right answer just educated guesses.

The idea that Obama is intentionally sabotaging America is so idiotic it just doesn't merit much thought.

We do know Obama's family fought in the Soviet Army in WW2. Obama told us himself. It would make sense that he is not happy with America.

And yes that was an insult.

To be fair, I believe Obama was simply expressing his complete ignorance of his family's history. But he did make the claim.

"I had a uncle who was one of the, who was part of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz and liberate the concentration camps," Obama said, "and the story in our family was is that when he came home, he just went up into the attic and he didn’t leave the house for six months, right. Now obviously something had really affected him deeply but at that time there just weren’t the kinds of facilities to help somebody work through that kind of pain."

After several conservative bloggers and Fox News Channel pointed out that the Auchwitz concentration camp was liberated by Soviet soldiers, not Americans, Obama’s campaign clarified the statement.

"Senator Obama’s family is proud of the service of his grandfather and uncles in World War II –- especially the fact that his great uncle was a part of liberating one of the concentration camps at Buchenwald," spokesman Bill Burton said. "Yesterday he mistakenly referred to Auschwitz instead of Buchenwald in telling of his personal experience of a soldier in his family who served heroically."
Buchenwald was liberated by American soldiers in April 1945.
