I am looking at the three DIMM Slots and holding two 256 MB strips of DDR RAM for a new PC I'm assembling, but can't locate the reference about faster memory access (limited to using just two DIMMs, but in which Slots?) I *THINK* that it's 1 & 3, but can't remember! Let that be a lesson to you, see about avoiding aging past middle age, memory goes away rapidly after that!

1&3 or 2&3 is dual channel.

1&2 is single channel.

They should work in any configuration, but obviously dual channel is faster in some instances.

Thanks. I just couldn't find it in the manual, and have learned I can no longer depend on a memory that for most of my life was excellent. I have noticed that the -S2G version that I have is missing one of the fan connections that the other NF7's have. It doesn't have a fan on the Northbridge chip, so I attached the exhaust fan to the Northbridge fan connector.

I'm not used to having so many fans; the Kingwin 424 comes with three already installed. Two are intake, with a filter, and I have an Aerocool HSF on the XP 2800 now on this MB. (Added this some while later) After a break for some Olympics coverage, it's almost ready to light up (yes, it has a lighted fan, for the exhaust, now). But it's late, I'm tired, and it can wait. However, in the meanwhile, it really looks "naked" inside with only the video, only one optical drive, no floppy, and only one hard drive, and that's all it will have for awhile .. the NIC is built in, and for the time being, I can accept the built-in audio as well.

That's not the crappy NF7-S "super-lite" board is it?

As I recall there was the real one, that had all the BIOS controls, SoundStorm, etc... NF7-S version 2.0

Then Abit released a version called NF7-S2 That had no SoundStorm, no BIOS settings for multipliers and many other overclocking options missing, etc... People have been confusing the two lately, and the result has been some pretty disappointed buyers who felt they were deceived by Abit using such a similar name (NF7-S v2 vs. NF7-S2)

:cool:Whether the audio is the same is something I hadn't checked on when looking at various MB choices. The entire version number is NF7-S2G. I planned to get an M audio Revolution for this system when I want to hear good sound. It does have the Two SATA (RAID) connectors, Gigabyte Ethernet, etc. Technically, it was a second choice after I had several negative comments about the first MB that I'd considered, which was supposed to have RAID IDE.

The "G" represents the Ethernet, and that was a factor in picking this version. The others either had no built-in ethernet, or had the slower speed variety. When I finish the assembly, I'll edit this some to say whether or not the software included seems to offer the usual OC features. I'd managed to misplace the manual for a couple of hours, and "wasted" a large chunk of the evening's assembly and checkout time already.
