Dimension 9100 and SATAII

Just guessing, but I'm gonna say just regular SATA. I mean, this is Dell were talking about, right?

Have you checked the support page on the Dell website? Or maybe the Specs page of your particular machine? That is a brand new model which means you have a warranty, which means you can call Dell and bug them anytime you have a question. But really it would be quicker if you looked for yourself cuz hold times for Dell support can be unbearable on their best days.

the only mobo that has SATA-II currently is the nforce4. I think Intel's upcoming chipset will have it, but currently they only support SATA with NCQ. But you can still use a SATA-II HD, it will just run at SATA-I speeds.

I did look at dell's support site for information but found nothing. So, I tried to reconfigure the system (online) and saw that there are SATAII hdd upgrade options. That lead me to assume that the system supports SATAII, but I want to know for sure. I didn't want to call dell because I don't think the tech support would know the difference between SATA and SATAII.

I checked some more and found that the Dimension 9100 has an Intel 945P chipset. Look the specifications on Intel's website, it does looks like it supports SATAII with NCQ. So raid setup should be very nice :-D

I believe it does support SATA II, but unless you upgrade your HDD, the standard Maxtor 160GB that comes with the 9100 is SATA I w/o NCQ (according to the Intel Storage Matrix program I installed).

BTW, when I used Intel Chipset ID utility it showed that I had a 945G chipset with a SATA 82108GH controller. The drivers from Dell don't seem to match with the chipset, so I decided to get mine directly from the Intel website.
