Dimension 4400 meltdown

A fellow I work with was telling me that his Dell Dimension actually caught fire yesterday. I've heard of power supplies going bad and smoking, but never heard of the internals of a case going up in flames. Apparently it got hot enough to melt the case to the point where plastic was dripping on the floor! I was just wondering if any of you had this happen or heard of this happening with a Dell Dimension? The worst part is his warranty just expired 3 weeks ago so he's going to have to buy a new pc. Felt bad for him and figured I'd see if anyone else has had this happen to them and if they knew what caused the pc to catch fire.

I have heard of this(I saw the pics) but not with Dell.

The 4400 is old, my first Dell was a 4550 and that must have been about 3+ years ago.

I sold a Dimension on ebay early this year and just had to give the buyer my shipping info so he could get warranty service on his machine - it apparantly caught fire too!

Why not just transfer the warranty?
