I've got an ASUS K50IJ laptop that the screen is dim on and you cannot adjust it. I took it apart and it has a Samsung LTN156AT02 panel. At this point I have ordered two screens off of ebay/amazon that were supposed to be "compatible" and neither one worked. They wont even show a picture at all like the original screen. Both sellers say their screen is 100% compatible with the Samsung LTN156AT02. Are they wrong or do I have another problem here? I haven't tried replacing the video cable because I figured if the cable was bad at least all panels would light up dim. I've googled and searched all over and found some people talking about capacitor or fuses soldered to the MOBO that can go bad/blow and cause a dim screen. Anyone know if the K50 laptops have either of these? I looked and didnt see anything that looked like a fuse to me. Thanks in advance for the help!!

edit - The first screen was an au optronics b156xw02, sell refunded my money because we thought it was dead. Second screen was listed as a Samsung panel but turned out to be a no namer.

I've heard that the inverter could cause that issue too, not sure in your case though.

Anyone know anything about these laptops? Or does anyone know of a good laptop repair site?

How dim are we talking about? like you can barely see it, or it's like on the lowest setting and you can't FN up and down the brightness?

If it's just like it is on the lowest setting and won't get brighter with the FN Up brightness key, it's a problem with the systemboard as in LED based screens there is no inverter or FL tubes to cause the problem.

Its pretty dim, you can barely see what everything says in the right lighting. It's definitely dimmer than my laptops go but since this is not my comp I'm not sure how dim this one goes. I talked to my friend who the computer belongs to and he said they did spill a little bit of soda on the computer while it was running. After that the screen went dim and they were unable to brighten it back up. So I'm going to take apart the computer and clean the keyboard and mobo and see if that helps any. Thanks for the help, I'll post back if I find anything.

Soda on systemboard while running = toast. You may get lucky and be able to clean it up. USe isopropal (SP?) alcohol on a q-tip to clean the sticky areas, but most likely the damage is done.

Exactly what I was thinking when he told me it was powered when the soda spilt. I stripped it down and theres a black patch about the size of a dime, 1" away from the GPU thats toasted. As soon as I removed the mobo all the little transistors or w/e just completely fell off and turned to ash lol. I'm gonna check on new mobo prices but I bet this computer is toast. Thanks for all the help Jeff!
