im in the process of building a new (pretty expensive) pc atm
i ran into some vague questions while putting a system together tho

first of all my mind is set on the machine i list below

cpu : i9 10900k

mobo : asus rog maximus XII EXTREME

ram : G.Skill DDR4 Trident-Z Royal 2x16GB 4000Mhz [F4-4000C19D-32GTRS]

psu : corsair hx1000i

GPU : aorus 2080 rtx super waterforce

NVME = sabrent rocket 1tb 4.0

SSD = 2x 1tb crucial mx500

cooling : AIO nzxt kraken z73

Case : lian li pc-011 dynamic XL rog certified.

i am worried about the wattage cost on this system tho altho im not sure how expensive this would be to run pretty much daily for 4-10hours.

also im worried about the 4.0 pcie not being supported atm if this will ever come with a future update (wich i doubt)

i do want a be a little bit future proof considering the money spent on the system will be around 4000euro.

my second in mind build i will list below, will be an AMD (altho im not a fan of amd due to heat issues and power consumptions)

AMD

CPU : 3900X

mobo : MSI MEG x570 godlike

ram : G.Skill DDR4 Trident-Z Royal 4x8GB 3600Mhz [F4-3600C16Q-32GTRS]

psu : corsair hx1000i

GPU : aorus 2080 rtx super waterforce

NVME = sabrent rocket 1tb 4.0

SSD = 2x 1tb crucial mx500

cooling : AIO nzxt kraken z73

Case : lian li pc-011 dynamic XL rog certified.

i think the amd will have more future but not sure altho its not as good as the intel above for gaming performance.

power consumption and heat im not sure since its hard to find accurate data for the same-like build.

also the amd will run lower ram speed at 3600 compared to the intel 4000mhz

any info would be appriciated !
i already ordered the cross compatible items like the GPU the nvme and ssd's
and i hope to actually buy the rest tomorow before prices skyrocket again (wich they did before)

What is your use case for the machine? Is it only gaming?

Also, I see you selected a PCI-E 4.0 NVMe, but intel doesn't support 4.0 (AMD does), and PCI-E 3.0 drives are cheaper. So something to keep in mind.

I have an 011 Dynamic myself and love it, but unless you are going full water cooling, no real point in the XL. Its larger so it can fit a larger reservoir and such.

And personally I would not go with an NZXT AIO because their software is junk IMO. The cooler itself is fine though.

PSU is quite large for what you have listed, but since you already have it, it is what it is.

For pure gaming Intel is slightly better in the high end, though that may change when Zen3/Rocket Lake come out. X570 motherboards will support Zen3 and Z490 motherboards will support Rocket Lake and PCI-E 4.0(but only with Rocket Lake CPUs).

AMD are doing really well on performance/watt now, it's not an FX 9590 lol. For productivity my default recommendation would be AMD.

Hello i came to the conclusion to cut out slightly on cost and give in only a +-5% on gaming performance to increase +-20 multi task performance.

I went to amd, even altho im not an amd fan.
the reason for that is : costs, speed, and only marginal less gaming performance for the increase in multitask.

I went for a 3900XT (new model just got released)

Gigabyte x570 aorus extreme

Rocket sabrent nvme 4.0 1tb

2x crucial mx500 ssd 1tb

Nzxt kraken z73 aio cooler (altho i prefer aircooling over water)

Corsair Hx1000i psu (platinum for cutting electrical costs/efficiency)

Aorus 2080 rtx super waterforce

G.skill 3600mhz cl16 32gb 4x8.

I also stuck with the lian li xl case.

This cut me +-500euro in costs aswell.

I am like you, not a big AMD fan. I feel until now most of their stuff was “good enough” and priced well.
However I am really happy with my 3800x. Powerful, fairly quiet and appears to be pretty secure so no performance ruining patches.
