Ok I have found a place by my house that sells these brand new Chinese made 50cc 4-stroke dirtbikes, automatic, electric start for 599. The Chinese bike has an engine that is of Honda design supposedly I called an ad in the paper today about a 2001 Honda XR50, but it's a 3 speed with auto clutch. They guy wants 500 for it.

A friend of mine rides and he said that those generic ones are just as good as the Honda 50s. I have been thinking about getting one too lol.

I too have seen these Chinese knock-offs.

No way would I purchase one. They are cheap for a reason.

Honda makes nice bikes that will last and hold up to the abuse a kid will put it through. Plus it will have resale value in the end when he is ready for a 70 or 90.

The main thing leaning me towards the generic is that it's an auto, and the Honda is a 3-speed.

Why don't you buy him some books so he isn't illiterate like his father?

Teaching a kid to shift is a good thing. Will be helpful in the future when they have to master the shifting and clutching at the same time.

Seriously they're just as good as the Honda 50s. A friend of mine rides and he has told me time and time again that the knockoffs are fine for someone who is learning.
