Dilema of either get new memory or CPU

So I got this cool idea of building my sister a nice computer when my friend decided to upgrade and give me 4400+ X2 and the x1800xl graphic card. So i went out and bough 4x1gb of DDR2 memory thinking that 4400+ is an AM2, guess what? it's not so now i'm bummed. I got everything ready except for the motherboard and the CPU, please advise me what to do. Either get new cpu or new memory? If it's CPU, what's the best to get?

P.S. I can't sell the memory now because I bought it for ~400 and now it's worth 1/2 of that.
 
If you have a 939 the step-up to a core2 duo will definitely give you a much bigger boost than more ram on a 939 board. If you go the route of getting a new cpu, and if you are sure the 4400+ works well, I'd buy it off of you.
 
don't get new memory stick with DDR2, they cheap and run fast right now. I say sell that CPU or use it else where I assume it's 939 correct? and just get a new CPU+mb which is very flexible, you can for instance get AM2 but I'd personally get myself a cheapo E4300 and a OC board to run it at 3Ghz+. Will be faster than AM2 combination. However, you can also do say: X2 3600+ brisbane with Tforce 550 and OC that setup to 3 Ghz, cheaper but about 50-60 bucks and is a bit slower though.
 
I'm running an E4300 @ 3GHz on a Gigabyte P35 MB.
It's a monster bang for the buck, if you're OCing. :thumbsup::laugh:
 
The 6750 has a bit more efficiency with the memory latencies and start look-aheads with cache. The 1333mhz fsb hasn't been shown to do anything. I understand the overclocking argument is stupid because you can overclock the stock comparison, but overclocking past 3.2 on conroe is a bit trying for a moderate upgrader and overclocker. So the 4300, or lower can easily get to 3.0ghz and be faster than an x6850 with a good board and power supply. So you gonna sell the 4400+ chip? I'm currently using a x2 3800+ that'll do 2.8 steady, but for heat reasons I take to only 2.6. I'm interested in maybe gaining the extra 200+mhz with possibly less power... think about it. Is it lapped?

Considering that you'll likely pay $50+ for the game at a local GameStop, the CPU itself is like almost free. I can't even think of any other component in a PC that is cheaper than a CPU these days.
 
My 4400+ is not lapped or anything...PM me the price you want it for. I'll probably get c2d or something with the new motherboard to go with the ddr2 that i have. Thanks all for your opinions.
