Digitizer Tablet

Recommend a digitizing tablet that I can use to take 8x11 or 11x17 drawings and digitize points.

Drawings would be floor plans similar to what exist in hotel rooms for fire evactions.

Would like something that would allow me (if possible) to define a couple of buttons to generate some type of indicator into the data file along with the selection of a point on the drawing.

Nothing fancy oir high powered and simple enough that an admin assistant could use.

I will need to take the output data file and develop an utility to convert it into a graphical format for display.
That is my headache.

Couldn't you do that with AutoCAD LT? You'd be a lot closer to your desired result using a CAD package.

Sounds more like he needs something to convert current images to an AutoCAD format, which would be easy to edit.

Can you link to an image of the final result you're after?

Like this, or this?

It is not the format, it is the equipment that I need.

Ornery's first link above is a good example of what I will be working from.

The digitizer is needed to get the information from paper to digital format (x/y coordinates).

The person that will be doing the tracing will not entail AutoCad experience of training.
