A12 will be factured on Intel's 10nm process, mate.

And with TSMC's claims you should always first see, then believe.

But sure, we'll take them on their words. If they succeed, they've narrowed the gap (in terms of density, not performance/power) to 1 year. If not, they're selling BS as usual.

Edit: That would mean from 20nm BEOL to 14nm BEOL is almost three years (2014->'17), while 14nm BEOL to 10nm BEOL is 1 year (2017->18).

To me, that does not pass the sniff test.

Edit 2: Unless they do the 14/16nm scheme all over again and introduce some new transistor without shrinking area. People are talking about 10nm being a short lived node (not for Intel, again), just like they did with 20nm, which was only used by Apple.
