Nvidia has scheduled its G72 graphics processing unit (GPU), which will be manufactured using 90nm process technology, to be introduced in early 2006, according to sources at Taiwan graphics card makers. The G72, a 90nm version of the G70 GPU, will compete with the 90nm R-series from ATI Technologies, which will announce the launch of its long-awaited R520, RV515 and RV530 GPUs on October 5, U.S. time, indicated the sources.

The 90nm G72 will have a much smaller size than the 0.11-micron based G70 allowing for multiple GPUs to be utilized on one graphics card through SLI technology, providing an effective and attractive alternative to those who do not want to fork out money for two graphics cards, the sources claimed.

Well since my life has changed for the better during the last couple of days I no longer has a dire need to upgrade now :D

Wonder how high a clock nvidia may get from an optimized G70 on 90nm. Could be a quite capable card. I for one think that will best the R580 (I don't believe in 32 pipes rumours; how many transistors would that be? 500 million?).

Well, we already know that the G70 can clock up to about 500 MHz. Imagine what happens to ATI's lineup if NVidia gets an extra 100 MHz speed bump from the 90nm process.

Interesting, will we see SLI v2 where instead of two cards they are doing SLI on the card?
Or even more interesting will they do 2 cores on each board and SLI them for 4 total cores? Or will we see a dual core solution with high interconnectivity between the cores which turns it into a 48/32ROP configuration?

Very interesting possibilities about multi core solutions.

There are already SLI multi-core single cards, so its a tried and tested design.

I think we will see dual-core GPUs before we see 4-way SLI, though that Gigabyte motherboard sure does look cool.

We will never see dual core GPU's.The GPU is by its nature effectively like a multi core processor anyway, so what we have currently is similar to a multi core architecture (quads of pixel pipes almost).
The way to make a "dual core" GPU would basically be to make instead of an 8 pipe GPU, a 16 pipe GPU, which is what they already do.
Dual GPUs on a single card is different to dual core GPU's. And we've already seen dual GPU's on a single card (with the dual 6600 and 6800 cards).
Dual GPU cards in SLI (for 4 cores) seems more likely than 4 single cards in SLI (for the consumer market anyway, workstations are slightly different).

i think ATI has learnt its lesson. R580 should be available at launch and i also see now that a lot of project manager loosing their jobs ;( . They really stuffed up big time with Crossfire +R520 launch execution. The funny thing is that R500 for the Xbox didn't even have half of the problem the R520 had. Also the company that is manufacturing the R500 sad they could produce more than a million chip before the XBOX 360 launch. Anyways i hope ATI doesn't get into much trouble that it get the company dies ;( because i don't want Nvidia claiming the whole market for it self and turn into the next M$/Intel.

But i am hopping they don't stuff up the launch and have something to fight back with 2nd revision.
