Digital video - what are the best settings?

Hello everyone,

I have just installed a Pyro DV card in my computer, and I was wondering how to best put my home videos on the computer.

I have Ulead SE 4.0 and Premiere 5.0, but Premiere doesn't seem to "see" the card (???) so I'm basically left with Ulead.

I'm trying to get the best image quality possible (say, 640x480, NTSC), since eventually I want to put my stuff on DVD or DivX.

It appears, however, that the .avi files I get (huge, too) appear blurry (as if the image is cut into small horizontal, de-synchronized stripes) when there's camera movement. Static images appear to be fine.

Do you know which settings I need?
Or can you point me to the right web resource?

Thanks much.

I can't remember the site but there is a guy, an employee for ads technology the maker of the pyro card that has a web page and link to forums for just what you are talking about...I will try to find...

meanwhile try a search on hotbot for ADS PYRO FORUM...see if that can find it

What are your system specs...probably good enough but I am just wondering...

Edit:http://www.price98.freeserve.co.uk/ See if this helps answer any questions...he runs ulead as well...should have links to different web forums where you can post questions to camcorder gurus...

Yep that is it...Your system specs look great anyways...

I have card and it ran fine on my amd-k62-400 though I expect I may have dropped a few frames...Though I don't remember what my settings were...I mostly got good looking playback when I tweaked the settings a bit too far one way or the other is when I got some of that deinterlace looking horiz. banding...kinda like a get if I don't deinterlace my dvd rips as a flaskmpeg them...Is that what it is like?

I basically f'd around on a small clips until I got desired size and playback...I need to reinstall in my new tbird 1.1 system and try it again but use the divx encoding of flaskmpeg or nanub...

Edit: I remember printing out the manual off of one of the cds...like 100 pages but very helpful if I remember correctly...

ooops, I forgot to look on the CD for a manual [moment of shame!]

My guess is that it IS de-interlacing (I have some hazy memory of this term,) but I have to figure out how to get rid of it.
