Digital Video - Online streaming

I am trying to find a way to compress digital video for streaming online.
I take an MPEG file off the camera which is roughly 1Gig/hour...obviously that is way too big for streaming online.

What programs are good for compressing and/or converting it to a suitable format?

It's for work, so even if they cost a bit - it's not my money 😀

I hate to even say this, but Windows Movie Maker does a fantastic job of compressing video into a .WMV file. You can set the max file size, and it will give you the best compression for that size.

Of course you can stream a .WMV file.

an mpeg file is compressed
if you don't like the compression ratio of your mpeg file, then use a different format with better compression
which is essentially what radiodude said ^^^

I have to agree, I encode alot of my stuff with Windows Media Encoder. The interface is simple, and it does a pretty decent job for streaming media.
