Your asking a pretty broad question- its kind of like asking what kind of computer to get.:( I own a Sony Digital 8. Granted, it still uses the "Hi-8 tapes" I still have the option to connect to the computer and edit via my firewire card. It works good for me, and the options are awesome.
I am pretty prone to pick Sony, and I would recommend any Sony camera above $600, but it depends on who you talk to and where you go. One thing that Sony has that apealed to me, is their "night shot". It will film in complete darkness(and works good too!). That is a great option if you are like me and want to do camping and get some little extras....
Its a huge market- good luck!

I am looking for strictly digital camcords, if that narrows it down any lol.

This is kinda one of my questions.
Say for instance compact flash is the standard for most part in digi still cams.

What is the most used ( standard ) media for digi camcords?
