Digital video camera suggestions

So we play a football game on fridays and one of the guys brought his JVC digital camera with him and filmed the game.
I wa surprised at the quality of the video when we watched it, so now I want to get one.

Anyone have any good suggestions? I was thinking of something in the $400 to $600 range...sound right?
 
I have the JVC GRDVM50. nice camera. Nothing too fancy. Reasonably priced. But JVC support leave a bit to be desired. That is the only experience I have with digital camcorders.
