digital versus standard prints

I am using a nikon F5/LS2000/photoshop/epson 1270 combination. I have been amazed that the quality of prints will beat the work of a one hour photo lab very easily. I have compared similar prints made by a professional lab. For portraits, I can't match the skin tone quality of the pro lab. However, many of the landsacpe and macro shots seem to have better saturation and some times even better sharpness compared to the pro lab prints.

Has anyone else found this to be true?

Yes, I have a Canon S100 2.1MP camera with HP 970Cxi printer and on photopaper the quality is excellent. In fact, it beats out my APS Elph pictures due to the poor resolution of 24mm APS film.
