damn that only leaves me 3 years to convince my parents to take advantage of their 57" HDTV. I mean, wtf ?!

Safe to say that if it was 480P, it would not be HD.
 
It'll probably be some mail in rebate thing where you buy the converter and mail in some form and they'll mail you a check for $40. I imagine there will be some $40 adapters available by 2009. Not to mention it's 3 years from now, I imagine only a small percentage of the population will not be DTV ready by then.
