You mean he actually wants to delay the transition so the people who want coupons can actually get them? That bastard. The audacity of some of these polititions actually trying to do something that might benefit a few few people with hardy any harm to anyone else. I'll be sure to remember that in four years.

People will need to be able to be told what to do after the Democrats declare martial law.

This is a particularly pathetic troll by a guy who clearly knows better. Give me a friggin' break.

How do you explain the multiple prior delays of this same deadline by President Bush's FCC? Was that also some kind of nefarious Democratic ploy?

You're being a moron, GTa.

It's only been blasted by stations for how long now that people need to convert? I don't buy the BS that people need more time.

This transition has been in the works for what, a few years? Is that seriously not enough time?

It's such a clusterfuck. People are so uninformed about this, most of the hysteria is probably coming from those who don't even need a converter box. I don't see any benefit to extending the deadline, just let it come and most people will finally get it into their thick skulls that they don't need a box. The rest will have to live without TV for a little while until they can get their hands on a converter.

What harm does it do to postpone it again?

But that's not what we're talking about here. We're talking about over 100,000 people who know about the changeover, did what they were supposed to and requested coupons and just haven't gotten them yet. I'm not seeing the problem with a delay until the government can fulfill the requests. It's not as if we're talking about people who didn't pay any attention, they did everything they should have.

I hope its not, we just need to fucking get it over with already.

When I do watch broadcast TV those stupid "warning" banners and commercials are annoying.

Don't forget that the FCC auctioned off a huge chunk of this analog TV spectrum (Verizon and AT&T bought up most of it). It might not be easy or possible to extend the deadline by more than a week or two, as these companies were expecting this spectrum to be clear of incumbent TV broadcasters by the end of February.

And even for those on a tight budget, can they really not afford a $50 converter box? If TV is that important to them, forget the coupon and just go out and buy the box, it's not that expensive.

To some people it is; besides they, as citizens "own" the airwaves along with the rest of us, so why should they be punished for the Government's pooch screwing of this transition?

I'm sorry, but I have trouble believing there are people out there who can't swing $50 for a converter box, especially considering they've had years to save up for it. Maybe some kind souls could start up a charity fund or something for converter boxes (I might chip in a little cash), but the government has already spent like $1 billion on the coupon program, I don't really think they need to throw more money at it.

Actually they still haven't sent the coupons to many who had already applied.

It's the Government that fucked up; why do you not insist they clean up their own mess?

I just don't see how they screwed up, IMO they've done far more than they had to. Coupons have been available since the beginning of 2008, if somebody waited until 40 days before the transition to request one I don't have a whole lot of sympathy.

Usually when I miss a deadline it's my fault, not the fault of somebody else for not giving me more time.

;)

All kidding aside, this DTV issue is more of a reminder of government inefficiency and ineptness than anything else.

Leave the losers behind who have not made the upgrade/investment, make the switch, check off a box that has been waiting too far long to be checked off, and move on to the next check box...like the nation's power grid.

No, people sent their requests in on time.

The government fucked up and hasn't gotten the coupons out to them yet.

It's pretty simple, but I'm done trying to explain it to you.

:D

While I find the OP's post to be beyond idiotic, I do think its time to just do the switch and get it over with. No matter how long you delay it, its still going to be chaotic for a certian number of people, so let's just get it over with.

If people are too stupid to figure out they need a converter box after all the news articles and commercials, they probably shouldn't be allowed to continue watching tv. I say pull the plug on analog on that date in February; if people lose their tv channels due to lack of a digital tuner, too bad.

My local cable provider is going to convert the digital signal back to analog so I don't need to do anything, except receive the same crappy signal I've been getting for years.
