So, if I have digital television already and am paying $10 a month extra for an extra digital box to be able to watch digital tv in another on another tv will the new DVD recorder with built in digital TV tuner allow me to toss the $10 exta a month box or will that special box still be required?

OTA means over the air I i guess. So how good does that look and how many channels do you get "free" that way?

if its an HD tuner then you will get HD quality. The digital cable box decodes the signal from the cable company. The dvd player cant do that.

It is a DVD recorder with a Digital Tuner required by all new TV's and other recording equipment by 2008 so they are starting to come out now.

So, I was thinking it would work replacing the cable company's digital tuner. I pay and extra $10 a month per extra digital TV box for other rooms in the house. I assumed it would do away with the need for the $10 a month. If it is only OTA it doesnt.

Anyone else want to chime in?

like i said before, the cable companies box decodes THEIR signal. IE, its not going to work with anything but THEIR boxes. You have an ATSC tuner most likely in your player, and it will do OTA digital broadcasts.
