Digital to VGA Adapters?

Some of my friends bought these adapters that hook into your digital out on your graphics card and end in VGA termination so that you can hook your standard CRT monitor up to it. Does this give any kind of performance difference or give your a higher qulity image? Seemed kinda fishy to me so I wanted to ask before I bought one. Thanks.

Ok I believe you. So why would you want to buy one? And could you give me some technical info so I could prove it to them that it shouldnt make any difference? They are picking on me 🙂
