Digital to Analog Converter ??

Sorry, If this is an Old question.

But all the New Video Cards are Digital out only and they come with a converter to analog.

I just bought a 7800gt, But do NOT want to give up my 22" CRT

Does the Converter distort the image ?
Does the converter cause video lag ?
Or am I just concerned about nothing ?
Why don't the New cards come with both digital and analog outs like they used to?

Thanks All.

The connectors are DVI-I with analog and digital signal pins. The adaptor itself simply connects the analog pins for your CRT. Some members here will swear that it imparts distortion to high resolutions, however I've not ever seen it myself, and I've been using an adaptor for years on several different models from ATI and Nvidia.

I'd be more worried about the stupid adapter getting knocked around, as far as it sticks off the back of the computer!

That's why I make it a point to try and purchase cards with both a D-Sub and DVI connector on the back... if it's got two DVI's I look elsewhere (I like the flexibility of having both without the stupid adapter, and I'm never going to use dual displays anyways).

Still, I'm more concerned about the back of my computer then losing image quality... I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

Most likely it won't affect quality. There is just one more small extra medium through which to transmit the data. Will it cause a miniscule amount of EMI compard to not using the adapter? Yes, but almost certainly nothing noticeable at all.

I have also been using one of these adapters for the last several days. Most resolutions/modes seem to be fine, but I think there may be a little blurriness at 2048x1536 at 85hz, which is near the limit of what VGA can support. I can't notice it in games but Windows looks very slightly different in that mode than it did on my old card, which had a VGA port. Newegg has some inexpensive cables that convert from DVI to VGA though, so I'll probably pick up one of those and see if that does anything.

In that case
Since I have the space and like CRT's cause I do not have to worry about the resolution.
I am going to order a SONY 24" GDM-FW900 CRT MONITOR
Ebay Item number: 8745658892

This should look very nice with the 7800gt

Thanks All
