Does anyone know if something along the lines of a digital thermometer would be good to keep an eye on ambient temps inside a case ?

My case is a Antec P182 and I want to keep an eye on the ambient.

Will this type of thermometer work ?

Thanks for the recommendation. The one I was looking at was this one.

Thermometer

Good ?

I had an idea of cutting a small square hole in my side panel and fastening the thermometer into it. The lcd display would be a few mm outside the case, but would read the temps inside.

Does this sound even remotely plausible ?

EDIT: I have 4 120mm case fans. Each one is 70cfm. Two of them are intake and two of them are exhausting. I plan on reading the temps from almost in the center of the case. If that would be the best area.

There are several combo bay devices that have up to 4 or more thermal sensors as well as fan control channels and perhaps external ports depending on how fancy you want to get. Might not make economic sense to buy just a single-channel thermometer for $10...

Yes, what you linked to will work well, I'm with Zepper on this though, not for the cost but I monitor the water temps in 2 loops and my ambients.

:p

why u think mine is showing 4 different temps?

(cpu water temp) (ambients taking at cpu rad fan) (gpu water temps) (abmients taken at gpu rad fan)

Thanks WoodButcher....That does look like it. Would you happen to know how accurate the readings are on this unit ? Or anyone else for that matter ?

Newegg link

I think I found it on Newegg. Reading some *user reviews*

I haven't looked to see the difference but there is a KM02 model as well, Petras has it. I would imagine the accuracy to be within a degree or two. I use a Lian LI thermo unit and it is spot on compared to a hand held IR gun and a desktop unit I have. after purchase compare it with other temp devices and you will know for sure. If something is important to you, get a second opinion.

Lian Li huh ? Hmm....I will check that out as well. Happen to have a model number for it in case there are several to choose from for Lian Li ?

Is this what you have ?

TR-3B Peice of s**t for fan control IMO, I use a nexus rheobus for that but the temps are good. It is a small unit, with a little modding it could fit in many locations other than a drive bay. In my case.

WOW !!

Awesome case you got there WoodButcher. Yea, I plan on getting into some serious overclocking, so I need to keep my temps to where I can monitor them all easily. My idea was to kind of *countersink* a small digital thermometer into the side panel only for ambient.

Then purchase a fan controller for my 6 120mm case fans and also to control the dual push pull 120's on my heatsink.

Thanks for all your advice so far Butcher.

Thanks, the LL unit could do what your thinking. As it sits in my case it is in a 3.5 bay, but the bay is gone. I have mounted it to the front bezel and it needs about an inch depth. A little hack and butch goes a long way.;)
If your getting a fan control anyway I'd consider opening the door once in a while, that unit Aigo uses is pretty neat.
