I'm wanting to buy a Canon Rebel XT, found a cheap place online. Beachcamera.com

I was wondering when do these bad boys usually go on sale if ever?

When they first come out...and when the newer model comes out. That's about it. Once in a while they will have rebate specials, but that's rare. Your best bet is to just find the best deal right now...you can wait it out, but it'll probably be a while.

Beach isn't a bad store. I've heard good things and bad things, but they aren't a bait and switch type place. check on the Fredmiranda.com sale/trade forums too...sometimes there are great deals to be had on seldom used cameras.

oh and wrong forum.

Around Christmas is when Canon usually has their rebates for select cameras and lenses. They typically don't go on 'sale'. Lenses will keep their value very well if you bought good lenses.

Beach Camera is legit. I've been to their retail store several times and the wife and I have spent a lot of money there (she is a semi-professional photographer). They do try to upsell extended warranties and accessories, but they are legit.

I bought my camera off beach camera. I'm not sure when they go on sale, but beach usually has some pretty good prices.

You might want to check out bhphotovideo. They have an XT with the kit lens for $571.95 and one without lens for $489.95.

Don't forget adorama.

I doubt there are goign to be any sales on the XT any time soon, unless it goes on clearance.

Canon also usually has rebates in the spring, but I wouldn't think for an older model like the xt.

Dell used to have some great deals on SLRs as well when they would have a flat percentage off plus a coupon, but it has been a while since I've seen one.

That's how I got my wife's Digital Rebel (first edition). It had just come out but I got it for a couple hundred off.

With the Supreme Court ruling about manufacturer's pricing, never :)

Seriously though you may see some promotions after the end of the summer and that's typical, everyone wants a nice camera for their vacation, in the fall demand drops so they offer some deals.

You might want to keep an eye on Newegg, I just got a great price on an open box D200

Here's a Rebel XT Body for $459

As GTaudiophile said, towards the end of their life. I believe that Canon products have an 18 month period between upgrades. The current digital Rebel, the XTi came out last August. That would mean the next digital Rebel would come out around February 2008. You can expect the price to drop then for the older models in that line.

you can wait around for a dell deal (usually a 20% coupon, plus 2% fatcash)

i ended up getting a deal at circuitcity.com
i waited for it to go on sale there (which circuit city has them on sale every couple weeks it seems). i bought a 15% coupon off ebay (for 2 bucks) to make the deal even sweeter.
plus i got like 20 bucks back in fatcash for that.
