The Canon 5D sells for $3000 brand new with warranty.

Would you buy a 5D for $2000 if it was brand new but had no warranty?

Edit: and specify why not

Why not?

Because I wouldn't spend that much money on a piece of equipment knowing that there's a chance a factory defect could render it useless.

But you could get Canon to fix anything on the 5D with the $1000 that you saved... even if the price of repair was a whopping $500, you've still saved $500. And who knows? The camera may never need to be fixed, and you're ahead by a grand.

That's not a good enough reason for me personally.

Then what's your train of thought?

I'd wait until Costco has it for sale (which I figure they will sooner or later since they have all the other Canon digital SLR's I think) and buy it there.

An extra $1,000 may not be worthwhile for a 1-3 year warranty, but an extra $1,000 for a lifetime warranty certainly is!

no id buy a Nikon

dont they come with a 1 year warrenty anyway? all the Nikons due and they will fix anythinng within that year, hell they fixed mine which was out of warrenty by liek 3 months for nothing

That's insanely expensive for a costly item that has no warranty. No way in the world I'd touch that deal.

Plus I don't think I'd want to support thieves by buying their goods.
