Digital S/PDIF input on Hack with a P35 Mobo

I have a digitech stompbox that has a coax S/PDIF output, and I'd like to jack that into my hackintosh to get stereo input in one cable for recording in Garage Band (otherwise, I have to either record in mono, which pingpong delay doesn't like, or somehow get 2 1/4" plugs into one stereo miniplug, and then avoid signal noise. And besides, sometimes I like the sterility of digital).

Anyway, finding a SPDIF bracket is hard enough, but assuming I do, is that even supported under hackintosh? In Audio/Midi setup, there isn't anything in the drop down for digital in, but that might be because there's nothing plugged into the header. Or perhaps a BIOS setting? I'm just asking because I dont' want to bother getting the bracket if it's not possible. If I have to, I'll go analog, but it'd be nice to have SPDIF Coax in.

Thanks!

Edit: Huh. Not sure if it's a cabling issue (had to a bunch of adapters) but I couldn't get sound through the analog either. Does standard Apple sound work like some WinXP sound (i.e. anything that's going in through line-in just plays through the speakers, regardless of whether you're in a recording program or not?)

I would say for the cost of the bracket it self you could get a USB one for the same price and less the hassle

Well... its been about 2 years since I had to do recordings on my macbook... but I am fairly certain that whatever is plugged into the Line-In only activates when it needs to be. So the app in question will call the Line-In, and when the app isn't open... nothing happens.

USB with SPDIF? The bracket looks to be around $15ish.
