digital reading of CD-ROM?

I wanted to store audio CD tracks in MP3 format. Nero Media Player posts an error message that reads:

Cannot convert CD-ROM drive letter to ASPI information. Digital reading is impossible.

Is there a simple solution for this? If not, I will just get another CD ripping program from internet. Thanks in advance.

Do you have the DAE cable hooked up from the CD-ROM to the sound card or motherboard if it's integrated?

It's a 4 pin connector.

Also is Digital CD playback checked in your Device Manger under the CD-ROM, if you are using WinXP, not sure about other OS's.

You won't need the internal analog or S/PDIF cable from your CD-ROM to your soundcard/motherboard. You can do higher quality DAE straight through the IDE channel. Simply enable digital CD audio for the said CD-ROM drive, and use EAC to rip & encode your tracks at the same time.

Just for anyone still paying attention, the 4-pin connector has nothing at all to do with DAE. That cable is for ANALOG playback.

Thanks for help. First, DMA was enabled from Device Manager. Still, Nero gives the same "DAE impossible" message. Then I found a suggestion in Nero faq. Opened CDROM.CFG and found NO_SUPPORT=2. According to faq, =2 means CD-ROM either does not support digital audio or the quality of digital audio was too bad that the program turned it off automatically.

Mine is Cendyne 48x12x50 (mfgr. Aopen), capable of digital audio, according to spec sheet. It was a Staples $10 After-Thanksgiving item. I guess I got what I paid for.

I will try EAC. Thanks for all your help.

you can check your Aopen drives DAE with CDspeed2000 it's a free download and it will tell what that drive can do,not al; CDRW have a good DEA
