Digital Pictures credible enoughf or insurance/proof?

Hey guys,

I'll elaborate shortly if there's interest, but I need to know this pretty quickly - some damage got done by contracted painters to my apartment.

I want to take pictures of the damage for proof to whomever is going to need to see it (the contractor or insurance, whatever).

Are digital pictures credible enough or should I run out and grab a disposable point and shoot?

Thanks,

CK

***UPDATE

OK, so the situation isn't life or death, but since I don't want to be a tease regardless of interest level:

PREFACE: About a month ago our neighbor downstairs had a leak. Maintenance checked to see if we were the source. This is nothing new, maintenance has been to check if we were the source a few times since August. The genius decides to poke a hole the size of a square foot behind my toilet. Surprise, I'm not the source of the leak. Turns out the next door neighbors have been overflowing the toilet and that's getting into the apartment of the people below me. LOVELY.

YESTERDAY: We finally got a notice that they're going to patch up the hole and "replace our bathroom walls". This sounds a little extreme but hey, if they want to replace the tiles, I wouldn't complain about a new bathroom. My girlfriend and I make sure that EVERYTHING is out of the bathroom (not being sure if they'll just patch the hole or actually replace the walls).

TODAY: Come home from work. No one is here but it smells like fresh paint...

Positives:
-Hey, looks like we are getting new tile. That part is done.
Negatives:
-There's white paint tracked all the way to the door on the new carpet that was installed by the complex before we moved in August 13th.
-The ONLY thing that's done is the tile. They didn't even put the shower knobs/faucet back on!
-The mother effing topper - We just bought a new sofa last month for $950 which just got delivered on SATURDAY which has a white paint spot on the back. AHHHHH!
-The hole in the wall is still there... jeebus.

So I took pictures of all the spots of paint. Went to complain to the office, they called up the contractor and apparently they were going to leave it go until tomorrow. The marketing girl argued until they agreed to come back tonight to "finish the job". I'm not sure if that means just the shower or if they're actually going to fix the other walls tonight or what.

They were going to leave us without a shower until tomorrow? We're not savages. My girlfriend and I both have white collar jobs, we can't not shower in the morning. So I'm waiting for these people to come back now... fun way to spend the night. Heads shall roll.

So anyway, thanks for the quick advice on the pictures. I'll update later/tomorrow if there's interest.

Thanks,

CK

Cliffs:
1) Apartment hires lousy contractor to fix hole in the wall that THEY made.
2) 3rd party contractor came to fix it 1 month later, got paint on new carpet, 4 day old sofa.
3) I intend to unleash the power of the dragon (and photographic evidence) on 3rd party contractor.

Yes.

Unless you plan on turning negatives in to whoever it is that needs them, then film pictures aren't much different. Thanks to photo paper, they could be spoofed if a person wanted to.

Perfect excuse to buy that Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II with the certified software stuff that it stamps pictures with and proves their validity.

the only time i'd be worried about hte source being digital is if it were going to some murder case or something

Yeah, like if you're taking a picture of a person's face or text that could be easily altered.

Suprisingly, picture proof, unless taken by a police photographer, is usually not evidence enough to hold up in court.

Id do both, make sure you have the time and date stamp going on your digital and take the fvckers to court if they don't fix the bathroom, the carpet and your sofa.
