Digital Pictures allowed for Passport Photos?

Hello all,

My wife and I need 6 passport pictures each for Green card application. The places I have called are charging ~$15 for 2 = ~$90 for 12 pictures.

Any reason I can't take a digital picture, crop it to 2 inches by 2 inches print it 6 times and use it?
