Digital Picture Frames

I have been reading about digital picture frames some and I think I would like to get one for my girlfriend for Christmas.

Does anyone know how the quality is on these? Are they worth it? Most of them are in the 150-200 range, so I would expect a pretty good picture.

What do you guys think? Brands?

I was actually looking at these earlier today for my Mom, but decided they were too expensive and went with just a digital frame that you can load an SD card into instead.

actually that's a great idea, I think my parents would like that for xmas. Let me know if you find something...

I've been reading reviews... I'm really between a couple of them.

There is a 9" Phillips (8" viewable) which looks really nice. They reviewed the 7" model on Engaget and had mostly nice things to say about it.
From what I read, it sounds like it has *very* nice picture quality, with a simple interface. The frame itself looks nice too, similar to the swivel iMacs.

There is also a Ceiva frame. This was also reviewed by Engadget. Personally, I like this one a little more I think. The frame isn't quite as nice, but it has the ability to load pictures over the internet. Basically, you just plug in a phone cord, and it automatically downloads pictures from a "folder", hosted for you on their site. The drawback? A monthly fee.

I think she would really like to wake up, and see new pictures, uploaded by me on occasion. She would be very happy with either one... plus, if she didn't want to pay the monthly fee, she could always just use it without the internet connection, in a fashion similar to the Phillips one.

What do you guys think?

The more reviews I read about the Ceiva one, the less I'm sure about it. Apparently you *must* use the website for photos--you can't just upload photos from the camera or use a SD card slot. Additionally, the picture quality isn't quite as good as the Phillips... and customers said you needed to look strait at it to really see what the pictures are--I don't think that is the case with the Phillips.

I purchased the Phillips 7" one for a gift. I opened it so I could preload some pics to it. An awesome feature it has that I dont see with other brands is an onboard clock so it will turn on and off to a schedule. The screen on it is amazing. Also has a battery so a power outage wont break anything.

bought this for my ex-gf (when we were together) and it was a waste of money in hindsight. Barely gets any use.

There's nothing like a printed picture in a frame.

Can you easily download pics and add them on? That's what I need to be able to do.
